Reduce Your Cholesterol With Natural Vitamins

Because of the great efforts of the American Heart Association and other similar organizations, we have gained a lot of knowledge on cholesterol and its effects on our health. We know that high cholesterol levels increase our risk for heart attacks and strokes. We also know that lowering our cholesterol levels will reduce this risk and keep our hearts and blood vessels healthy. Additionally, we know that diet, weight loss, and exercise can help us lower our cholesterol levels. Prescription drugs that lower cholesterol have recently become available and advertised by pharmaceutical companies. However, these medications have some serious side effects including myopathy, reduction in CoQ10 levels, which can lead to heart disease, and rhabdomyaolysis, a rare, but fatal condition. Fortunately, there is a safe alternative to these prescription medications, pantethine and plant sterols, which are also known as phytosterols, are natures solution to high cholesterol levels.

Cholesterol, a soft, waxy, fat-like substance, is found in every cell of the body. It is needed to help digest fats, strengthen cell membranes, insulate nerves, and make hormones. Made primarily by the liver, our body makes all the cholesterol that we actually need, but we also get additional cholesterol from the foods that we eat. The highest sources of cholesterol are egg yolks and organ meats including liver and kidney. Peanut butter, avocado, and all other plant-derived foods contain no cholesterol. However, all foods from animal sources do contain cholesterol. Even though cholesterol is responsible for many important functions in the body, too much cholesterol in the bloodstream can be very dangerous. Once blood cholesterol has reached high levels, it builds up on artery walls, and therefore increases the risk of blood clots, heart attack, and stroke. Because the heart is a muscle, it needs a constant supply of oxygen and nutrients. The bloodstream, which transports these nutrients to the heart through coronary arteries, cannot transport the oxygen if the arteries become narrowed or clogged by cholesterol and fat deposits. Depending on the severity, this can result in coronary heart disease, angina, or heart attack.

Because cholesterol and other fats cant dissolve in the blood, they cant travel on their own. Instead, they are transported to and from cells by special carriers called lipoproteins. There are two major lipoproteins: low density lipoproteins (LDL) or bad cholesterol, and high density lipoproteins (HDL) or good cholesterol. LDLs cause atherosclerosis because they clog up our arteries with the continual buildup of fat. On the other hand, HDL prevents fat buildup by carrying it away from the arteries to the liver, where it can be processed and eliminated.

Triglycerides, which are fats used as fuel by the body, can make the blood more sluggish and less capable of transporting oxygen when in high amounts. There are many medications prescribed by physicians for people with elevated triglyceride levels. Some of the most effective, and most harmful, are the statins. The all-natural combination of pantethine and plant sterols can safely lower triglycerides and LDL cholesterol levels, while increasing HDL cholesterol.

Pantethine, which is a form of pantothenic acid that is found in liver, salmon, and yeast, is known for its ability to lower cholesterol by blocking its production. The production of cholesterol in the human body is a very complex process, involving many biochemical reactions and enzyme activity. Pantethine inhibits several of these enzymes, blocking the activity of those coenzymes involved in cholesterol synthesis by about 50%. To compensate for the lowered cholesterol production, the liver pulls LDL out of the bloodstream, resulting in a lower total cholesterol level.

Plant sterols, which are the fats of plants, are found in nuts, vegetable oils, corn, and rice. They are structurally very similar to cholesterol and are therefore able to act as a stand in for cholesterol and block its absorption, causing it to be eventually excreted. If we eat enough plant sterols, the amount of cholesterol transported from the intestinal tract to the liver is greatly reduced. And, just like pantethines effect on the liver, this cholesterol reduction causes the liver to pull LDL cholesterol out of the blood, which reduces both total and LDL cholesterol levels.

Because the plant sterol and pantethine found in food just arent enough to have much of an effect on our health, we need to take a concentrated combination of pantethine and plant sterols in just the right ratio. Plant sterols, which are bound in fibers in the plants, can not be adequately consumed even if we ate lots of raw fruits and vegetables. There are also several forms of plant sterols, with some ratios of these plant sterols being more beneficial than others. While pantethine is found in several food sources, it is hard to get beneficial amounts from our food. Manufacturers of high quality nutritional supplements offer pantethine and plant sterols in the most beneficial ratio, proven by research. The best results are found when taking a combination of 400 mg of plant sterols and 200 mg of pantethine three times a day. Recent studies have shown that lowering cholesterol in people without heart disease can greatly reduce their risk for ever developing CHD, along with heart attacks and atherosclerosis. This is also true for those with high cholesterol levels and for those with average cholesterol levels. Most physicians would never consider prescribing statin drugs to people without actual heart disease or high cholesterol levels because of the many health risks of the drugs. However, the combination of pantethine and plant sterols are very effective in helping those people with heart disease, high cholesterol levels, high triglyceride levels, as well as those just wanting the extra health insurance for their hearts. Pantethine and plant sterols are both very safe. Although some people may experience a mild upset stomach when first taking pantethine, taking the combination of pantethine and plant sterols with meals can usually solve this problem. Pantethine and plant sterols are available at your local or internet vitamin store.

Choosing the Right Natural Fiber Rug for Your Home

When it comes to home design, there are no hard and fast rules to go by. The most difficult part of the process is deciding when or where to start. Whether youve chosen to carry this entire task on your shoulders or have opted to hire the services of a designer, using an area rug should always rank somewhere on the top of your list.

Though not too many homeowners realize it, no piece of furniture or item brings a more dramatic transformation to your room than an area rug, which is literally its centerpiece. Choosing the right rug is crucial in your home decorating success. However, picking the appropriate floor covering material can also be a daunting task. Below are some tips which weve put together to make your area rug shopping experience both fun and challenging.

1. Choose a Shade or Color

Whether youre working on an empty room or already have furniture, it is essential that you pick the right shade that would be consistent with your rooms motif. Taking a photo of your room is advisable to help you visualize how your rug would blend with other elements in your room.

For areas exposed to busy traffic such as stairs and hallways, you might want dark patterns. Rooms with busy interiors require subdued colors. Ornate wall papers and intricate furniture designs go well with light colored rugs which do not compete with design. The general rule is that light color rugs make rooms appear larger and less constricted. Darker shades bring warmth and helps enhance a rooms color scheme.

2. Determine the Right Fiber, Material and Weave

Your choice largely depends on your rugs purpose. For instance, cotton backed wool rugs go well with hallway entrances because of their durability and inherent resistance to stains. http://www.NaturalAreaRugs.com provides useful tips and advice on the various natural fiber rugs and their suitability for particular applications.

3. Request a Sample

Some customers get disappointed when they end up buying rugs that fall below their expectations. The best way to address this is to request a sample which reveals the most intricate details about your rug. A swatch allows you to match your rug with your rooms furniture and inspect how the lighting bounces of your rugs weave patterns. The last thing youd want to do is to rewrap a huge area rug for return or exchange (there are no returns for made to order rugs).

4. Check the Appropriate Rug Size

Large area rugs go well with living rooms, bedrooms and dinging rooms. Smaller rugs work best in foyers, hallways, and bathrooms.

For living rooms with hardwood floors, youd want approximately eighteen to twenty four inches of wood to be exposed around the rugs perimeter. In dining rooms, youd want room to pull the chairs out from the table with the back legs of the chairs remaining on the area rug. For accurate measurements, use a tape to outline the area to be covered by your rug.

Generally speaking, youd either want all your furniture on top of your rug, or everything outside of your area rug. Having pieces of furniture partially on your rug gives that appearance of furniture falling off.

5. Using Multiple Area Rugs

While it is a general rule to use only one area rug per room for better coordination, exceptionally large rooms might require more than just one. In such cases you have to be sure that both rugs complement each other and that one should be dominant in size.

6. Rug Shape

While it would be safe to use a standard sized rectangular rug, you might want to explore your imagination and consider other shapes. Your room should have no restrictions when it comes to flooring design. A custom-shaped rug tailored after your rooms specific requirements can help enhance its beauty. Rectangular rugs work well for bedrooms and living rooms while round and oblong rugs are suitable for dining rooms.

7. Furniture

In order for your area rug to work, any additional furniture should be consistent with the design you initially intended for your rug. Try not to over-decorate if you have a bold colored rug which might clash with too much clutter.

8. Changing Through the Seasons

For added life to your room, try using different sets of area rugs for winter and summer. This is the most economical way of transforming your room without investing so much on expensive furniture.

10. Do Your Research

Try to keep a record of all flooring and room designs that catch your attention. This assists you in visualizing and implementing a methodical decorating plan for your room. This allows you to safely experiment on priorly tested designs.

We hope these tips can aid your assessment in choosing the right area rug for your home. Remember, shopping for rugs should be a fun and enjoyable experience, so dont restrict your imagination. Go ahead and test your creativity. But if you still have apprehensions about making these decisions on your won, you can always consult a local designer.

Does Your Business Need an On-Site ATM Machine?

So youre wondering whether or not its worth buying an on-site ATM machine for your retail store or other business? The best way to find an answer to this all important question is to measure foot traffic in your vicinity, and determine the number of customers that will see and use the machine on an average day.

To justify your multi-thousand dollar investment in an on-site ATM, you will need to place the machine in a prime location where it will be seen by hundreds of people on a daily basis.

Another point that might factor in to your decision is your businesss reliance on cash. If your retail locations do not accept alternate payment methods such as checks, credit, and debit cards, an ATM could be an especially valuable way to increase revenue.

If you do accept alternate payment methods, you should remember the fact that installing an ATM will likely reduce usage of your credit card processing systems, potentially cutting down on processing costs and ultimately saving you money.

On-site ATM machines arent for everybody, and if there are one or more other ATM machines within close proximity to your store, installing another one probably wont do your business much good. If your customers often find themselves short of cash, however, and need a quick and convenient way to refill their wallets, the benefits of installing an ATM could be incalculable.

Sexual Misconduct by Teachers Addressed in New Los Angeles Play, Mustang Sally

The plethora of female teachers charged with sexual misconduct with their male students is now such a common news headline that playwright Linda Felton Steinbaum was compelled to write her new play, Mustang Sally, which addresses the intriguing similarities of the families of the perpetrators. "To say these families are dysfunctional is an understatement," says Linda. "And so many of them! It's shocking how young the majority of the victims are. Most assume that if a female teacher finds herself in an inappropriate relationship with an underage boy, he must be very mature and manly. Not so. Almost fifty percent of these boys are 13 or younger."

Listed here are just a few of the cases that have garnered the media's attention; Joan Marie Sladky with a 16-year old, Lakina Stutts, age 40 with a 14 year old student, Deana Bobo 37, sex with 14 year old, Bethany Sherrill 24 with 14 year old, Susan Eble 35 -- 14 year old, Tara Lynn Crisp 29 -- 14 year old, Debra LaFave with a 14 year old boy, Kelly Lynn Dalecki 28 with 13 year old boy, Sherry Brians 41-- with a 12 year old, Pamela Turner 27 -- 13 year old boy, Mary Kay Letourneau was 34 when she had sex with a 12 year old, Carol Flannigan 50 -- 11 year old former student and we dare not leave out Laura Lynn Findlay who pleaded guilty to 22 counts of criminal sexual activity with 8th grade band students (that makes them all around age 13)! The list seems endless - all were teachers.

Linda studied the family structure of female teachers who find themselves involved in sexual misconduct (statutory rape) with their male students. According to Harry Krop, a licensed psychologist in Gainesville, FL, "The motivation for adult women who form a sexual relationship with boys is different than men who develop relationships with girls. Men who have sex with girls tend to have sexual disorders, such as pedophilia. But for women, it's not about the sex, but rather the romance. It's more of a need to be desired, to have someone find them attractive and the need for attention," Krop said in a Gainsville Sun article of 11-17-2005.

"Though the dynamics for female vs. male offenders are different, it's still a crime if the boy is underage, even if the sex is consensual," says Ms. Steinbaum. "Boys are often confused by messages they see in movies, TV and the media. They get the repetitive message that if they are presented with an opportunity to have sex, they are somehow required to comply to prove their masculinity. This is even more confusing if the offer comes from a woman in authority."

Krop agrees. He says, "A sexual relationship with an older woman also causes long-term problems for the young (male) victim. These victims tend to have more psychological damage than young girls," Krop said. "They have boundary issues and intimacy problems. They are usually vulnerable and women look for that."

"We need to protect our sons as well as our daughters," says Linda. "It disturbs me that this can be so easily dismissed by society, especially because it's happening more often than you might think. School boards need to put serious deterrents in place to discourage other female teachers who might find themselves 'drawn' to their young male students."

Top theatrical director Arturo Castillo has been secured to lead the world premiere production of Mustang Sally. Arturo has directed in many large Equity venues including the National Theatre in London. We are very excited to have a director of Arturo's caliber committed to this production. I have worked with Arturo before and, like me, he is most excited about new theatrical pieces that have a timely message.

Mustang Sally opens Oct 13, 2007 at The Whitefire Theatre in Sherman Oaks, CA for a six week run. The Whitefire, celebrating its 25 anniversary this year, is one of the nicest AEA 99-seat houses in LA with valet service or plenty of street parking. Striking Keyword Gold

Keywords are all the buzz these days, but the migration of keywords from what they were a year or two years ago to where they are now is a different thing altogether. Authors, entrepreneurs and business owners know they need keywords in their web site, in their press releases and in their articles but they dont often know how to find these keywords or what the best keywords are to use.

When your web designer says to you: Pick your keywords for your web site the first thing you think of are the root or gut feel keywords. These are almost always wrong. Why? Lets dig into this further and find out.

Lets say youre looking for a doctor. Are you going to go online and search for the keyword: Doctor Doubtful. Youll probably go online and search for doctor + internal medicine + San Diego, meaning that you want to find a doctor in your specific area and for your focused needs. If, as the doctor, you used the keyword doctor youd end up with a mishmash of traffic to your site and, if you were using these keywords for articles or press releases, neither of those would bring up much in the search engines.

Why keywords?

The long tail has really forced us to dig further into our markets than ever before. In fact research has shown that regardless of the type of search someone is conducting, a consumer who uses focused, finite language is much more likely to buy than a search based on gut feel words. Let me give you an example.

Lets say youre looking for a red car, you want a new car and it has to be red. On a fluke you think: Hey, Lexus makes a nice ride, let me see what comes up when I do a quick search. So you plug in the keywords: red + Lexus, what do you find? A hodgepodge of sites related to everything from the Lexus that someone is trying to sell on eBay to the guy so in love with his car hes created a MySpace page about it.

Chances are it doesnt really matter because you werent that interested in the red car to begin with. But if you search on more finite terms, lets say red + Lexus + 4WD + sunroof, now were talking a consumer who is 95% closer to a buy than the guy Googling red + Lexus. In order for you to find your audience in the maze of traffic and the enormity of messages online, youll need to get very, very focused.

Getting clear, getting focused

So how can you get focused? Well first, why not try surveying your customers or readers? Ask them to fill in a quick little survey and see what search terms come to mind when they think of your book, message, or product (to get more buy in to this survey, offer them a freebie if they do it).

Other ways to gain access to keywords are keyword search tools like Wordtracker and Overture. Both of these sites have a learning curve and Wordtracker does have a monthly fee (but if you have all your data together they offer a free one day trial that might get you started). But buyer beware! According to AMEs keyword expert, Susan Gilbert: If you go to http://inventory.overture.com and type in your keyword, you will get the results from search in Yahoo for that term only for the prior month.

"However, these numbers are not accurate.(Every time someone types a keyword into yahoo for SEO purposes, it counts as a search). Search numbers are only part of the equation, however. You have to evaluate the "results" aspect (how many pages of information are available in that search engine for that term). It's finding the perfect relationship between a keyword that has enough searches with low(er) competition that will tell you the best keyword terms for your purpose.

As youre navigating through a site like Overture, they key is to look for supply vs. demand. Ideally you want a keyword thats being searched on that doesnt have a ton of supply. Lets take the diet industry as an example, if youre trying to promote your message of diet and healthy living, using the word diet in your article, press release or web site keywords probably wont get you much ranking. Why? Well everyone in this market is using this same word, but if you dig even further into this market youll find that the search term: Lose weight fast is getting a lot of searches but very few returns. When thats the case those are the keywords you want to zero in on.

So how do you know if your keywords are working? Test them. Youll see very quickly if theyre working or if theyre too general to matter. Sometimes the only way you can find out is if you test, test, test. Web 2.0 strategies are always growing, building and changing. And speaking of changing, you might wonder how long keywords will last. Well, that depends. According to Gilbert: Keywords could work for months or years. There's no telling because the WWW is constantly filled with new sites and new information. Use the keywords immediately, and for as long as you are getting results.

Once you finalize your keywords youll want to use them, but not overuse them. Id recommend using your keywords in the article or press release title, then once in the first paragraph and once in the last paragraph. This will tie in your words nicely without overusing them.

The key with keywords is to understand that the more focused you can get, the better your results will be. Yes, its a lot of work but the benefits can be enormous and like anything on the Net, its growing and changing and if you can adapt and learn, you can grow your campaigns and your success!

The Bully Without a Face - Cyberbullying

Words can have powerful meanings to people. For example, if I mention the word alcoholic, most people conjure up a middle aged to older adult, sitting on a park bench, clothes disheveled and drinking out of a paper bag. If I mention the word bully, most people conjure up a middle school to high school student, of larger appearance, twisting other kids arms and stealing their lunch money.

This is a notion of the past. With today's technology, anyone can be a bully. It can be the 13-year-old cheerleader, the 15-year-old football player, the 17-year-old Valedictorian of the school, or it could be the boy or girl next door, who has never been in any trouble. With technology and the Internet today, there is a more treacherous and feared bully, the cyber bully.

The cyber bully will send someone cruel, mean, threatening and unrelenting messages to their target victim. They can spread rumors about the other person on the Internet, that others are gay, have STD's, are sexually promiscuous, etc. They can take another's picture in the locker room while getting dressed for gym and place it on the Internet. Cell phones now usually have the capability to take pictures, so this has become a more widely used tactic in harming others. Tricking a person into believing that you are their friend and then taking sensitive information and distributing it to others. The list of cruel things that can be done goes on. Kids are even receiving threats in text messages on their cell phones.

The old saying used to be "sticks and stones can break my bones, but names will never hurt me". Unfortunately words are extremely powerful and have brought some children and adolescents to commit suicide, due to being ridiculed, made fun of and basically mentally tortured.

What can you do? There are lots of tips on how to help prevent or stop cyber bullying. You should keep the computer in a public area in the home, where others can see what is going on online. Talk to your child about never revealing private information such as their phone number or address, or other private information about himself or herself that can be used against them. Understand the websites that they are going to and be able to identify their friends that they are sending chats or Instant Messages to. Talk to your kids about telling an adult if they are being bullied. Discuss cyber bullying and how to keep safe on the Internet. Lastly, teach your child to tell the cyber bully to stop. If your child is being threatened or has vicious letters, pictures or any other form of cyber bullying about them online, first you need to save the evidence. You can find the ISP of the cyber bully, from your Internet provider. If the cyber bully is in the same school, you can contact the school to have a meeting with the cyber bully and their parents. Most school districts are now adopting policies regarding cyber bullying as this has become a very wide spread problem. One third of all teenagers are victims of cyber bullying. If the cyber bully attends another school, you can contact their parents and provide evidence of what their child is doing online. You can either meet with their parents or send them mail regarding their Childs' online activity.

There are some forms of cyber bullying that need more than face-to-face contact with parents and the need to have law enforcement involved. If your child is being sexually exploited online, threatened with physical violence, a victim of a sexual predator, or a hate crime. Contact the police immediately and have them investigate your case. Some parents have utilized monitoring software to understand what their child is doing online. This is one extra way to help protect your children.

Detroit Schools Has A Difficult Start To The 2006-2007 School Year

Detroit Schools Teachers Delay School Starts with Strike

There has been a slow and turbulent start to the Detroit Schools new school year. In a battle over contracts, some 7,000 teachers and 2,000 staff members refused to start school in September. These contract disagreements lead finally to a court battle. The contract disagreement began on August 28 after the Teachers Union rejected a two year contract that included salary cuts of 5% and increased health insurance co-payments. Detroit Schools wants an $88 million concession from the Detroit Schools Teachers Union to help with the $105 million deficit to its $1.36 billion budget.

On September 16, Detroit Circuit Court Judge Susan Borman ordered that the 7,000 striking Detroit Schools teachers return to work. After this order, Detroit Teachers Union president Janna Garrison read the order aloud to 3,000 Detroit Federation of Teachers members but did not comment or give any instructions as to whether the order should be obeyed. The vast majority of the teachers did not return to work.

Detroit Schools spokesman Lekan Oguntoyinbo stated that under state law teachers who defied the order could face penalties which include fines and other actions. Oguntoyinbo said that Detroit Schools would go back to the courts and request that the order be enforce. As of the 18th of September, teachers had not returned and Detroit Schools has not decided what action it would take.

On the official first day of school, the 130,000 students in the Detroit Schools were greeted by their teachers not in the classroom but protesting outside. The picketing teachers were most of the teachers, only about 9% of Detroit Schools had returned to work. The Detroit Schools Board of Education worried that the strike would cause students to pull out of the Detroit schools and that their families will leave the city, however most parents support the teachers.

Detroit Schools Teachers Return to Work

Even though the contract issues have not been fully resolved but the Teachers Union has announced that the teachers returned to work on September 20. This was mainly due to pressures from the court and not due to reconciliation between the Detroit Schools and the teachers.

Many Union members, parents and other supporters of the teachers do not want the issue to remain tabled. These supporters want the Detroit Schools system revised. They claim the administration is top heavy and each position should be justified in some way. Others want the Detroit Schools to consider the consolidation of schools. This idea has fewer supporters because it would involve school closures that would greatly affect parents and neighborhoods. Even though this would be the most drastic of the possible ways to change the Detroit Schools, it may be the most cost effective. Like all issues there are many sides. Some wish the Detroit Schools top be run more like a business, which would include offering teacher buyouts, others believe education should be the main focus no matter what the costs.

Can Vitamins Help With Lupus

Lupus is an autoimmune disease where the immune system of the body produces antibodies which start attacking itself, producing inflammation of the skin, joints, blood vessels and other areas. Some of the first symptoms are similar to those common with arthritis, Lyme disease, and fibromyalgia such as swelling and pain of the joints, sometimes with a fever. Many cases also have a characteristic rash that appears across the nose and cheeks, which consists of pinkish to red coloration of the skin and raised red bumps.

The following vitamins and minerals have been shown to be beneficial in the management of Lupus and its many symptoms.

Vitamin A helps prevent eye disorders, skin disorders like acne, cancer, colds, influenza and other infections. It enhances immunity and acts as an antioxidant. Vitamin A is needed for skin and mucous membrane health, bone and teeth formation, and protein utilization. It helps slow the aging process.

The B vitamins promote healthy nerves, skin, eyes, hair, liver, gastrointestinal tract, and brain function. The B vitamins are also coenzymes involved in energy production. B complex is important for elderly people and a deficiency can mimic Alzheimer's disease.

Vitamin C performs hundreds of functions in the body. It is crucial for the production of antibodies, strengthens connective tissues, helps reduce the duration and severity of a cold, assists with wound healing, and protects other vitamins from oxidation.

Vitamin E, or tocopherol, is an anti-oxidant that prevents the fats and fat-soluble Vitamin A stored in the body from breaking down and combining with other substances that may be harmful to the body. It also protects red blood cells from rupturing.

Zinc is required for the production of both RNA and DNA, the basic building blocks of the body. It assists the body in making the 200+ enzymes and is essential in the development and continuous normal functioning of the central nervous system. Zinc also plays a role in the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins and fats.

Magnesium is essential for every major biological process. It is necessary for 300+ enzymatic reactions and is vital for calcium metabolism. Magnesium is not a trace mineral, but a major entity in our bodies.

Calcium performs numerous vital functions in the body. It combines with phosphorus to strengthen bones and is crucial for nerve conduction, muscle contraction and heartbeat. Calcium also helps prevent cramps brought on by exercise by avoiding lactic acid buildup.

Iodine is crucial for the health of the thyroid gland and is essential for the production of two key hormones that help regulate a host of body processes including resting metabolic rate, heart rate, heat production and energy levels.

Manganese is involved in protein, fat and energy metabolism. Its primary function, though, is as an antioxidant. Manganese is an essential part of biochemical reactions that affect bone, cartilage and brain function.

Copper is heavily involved in the production of hemoglobin. It is also involved in the production of collagen, the protein responsible for the integrity of bone, cartilage, skin and tendon, and elastin, a major component of large blood vessels.

Selenium is an essential trace mineral required by the body in small quantities. It is also a potent antioxidant. Selenium is necessary for proper calcium and vitamin C metabolism, helps convert blood sugar into energy, decreases platelet aggregation and helps promote cardiovascular health.

You should work closely with your physician in the management of Lupus, which includes discussing the vitamins and minerals listed above before beginning to take any of them. Some vitamins and minerals may have adverse reactions when taken in combination with certain over-the-counter and prescription medications.

The Okavango Delta the river that never reaches the sea

It's a very different Africa. Not one of dust and sand and great fiery sunsets, but of the wettest desert on Earth.

In the middle of dry land a great river spills out onto to the sands of the Kalahari Desert in the northern corner of Botswana to create an extraordinary watery jungle. Like an immense oasis surrounded by desert, the Okavango Delta is filled with mysterious waters, lush vegetation and entrancing wildlife.

The Okavango, "The river that never reaches the sea," flows south from the uplands of Angola winding it's way into Botswana, and then spreads out over the parched plain irrigating 6,000 square miles to create the largest inland delta on Earth. The area that was once part of Lake Makgadikgadi, an ancient lake that dried up some 10,000 years ago, has once again been transformed into a labyrinth of channels, lagoons, swamps, and wooded islands that sustain a remarkable concentration of life.

Seasonal flooding of the delta during May and June winter in the southern hemisphere brings fresh water and a renewal of life to this vast swamp. Islands can disappear completely during the peak flood, and then reappear at the end of the season. These countless islands give birth to several diverse ecosystems, which are home to vast numbers of birds and animals, while the crystal clear waters are filled with a veritable zoo of life.

A consistent source of water and food, amid the arid landscape, the delta draws large numbers of migratory elephants to the area. Lumbering their great masses into the cool water, the elephants swim gracefully weightless among the forests of lily pads. This impenetrable aquatic forest of pinks and greens also hides schools of tiny silver fish.

But the tranquility of the green waters belies an exciting and dangerous side of this idyllic place. Great Nile crocodiles take a refreshing dip from a day spent basking on the riverbank and glide across the surface to settle unnoticed among the vegetation. Meanwhile a group of visitors enjoys a tranquil ride in mokoros (traditional dugout canoes) with a guide watching intently for signs of hippos swimming unseen, whose danger lies in their unpredictable nature and lack of fear of humans.

By day, a cruise along the maze of narrow papyrus-lined waterways of the Okavango Delta offers the chance to enjoy a prosperity of wildlife including lions, hyenas and buffalo, an array of different antelope and other smaller animals - warthog, mongoose, spotted genets, monkeys, bushbabies and tree squirrels. But nighttime on the delta is a full sensory experience. An incomprehensible number of stars and constellations will make you wish you knew more about astronomy, while you are serenaded by the sound of Hippos and Bell Frogs that mingle with the cacophony of other bleats, burps and hoots; some seemingly threatening, some just unusual and unrecognizable, and some delightfully soothing.

Smallville (Season 3) DVD Review

Leaping onto the television landscape in Fall 2001, Smallville follows the exploits of a young Clark Kent in the years leading up to his emergence as the beloved Superman. Following a slew of TV renditions of the character's life since the comic book first appeared, Smallville sets itself apart by focusing on the lesser discussed niche of Clark's earliest developmental days. Superb casting and consistent writing have combined to make Smallville one of the more popular shows on television (especially in international markets), making the show one of the WB network's most successful creations to date

Tom Welling stars in the imminent role of teenager Clark Kent, a refugee from the dying planet of Krypton. His ship having landed in the rural American town of Smallville, Clark is raised by locals Martha (Annette O'Toole) and Jonathan Kent (John Schneider - of Dukes of Hazzard fame) as their own son. Unlike some of the film and TV spin-offs, Smallville attributes powers to other individuals in the area as a result of some of the debris associated with Krypton's destruction. As a result, Clark is forced to keep his own powers a secret while battling against other individuals who are more powerful than traditional human criminal elements. The show also provides a glimpse into the early friendship experienced between Clark and Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum) as well as Clark's romance with two high school classmates, Chloe Sullivan (Allison Mack) and Lana Lang (Kristin Kreuk). Part sci-fi fantasy and part teenage soap, Smallville is an instant television classic

The Smallville (Season 3) DVD offers a number of exciting episodes including the season premiere "Exile" in which Clark Kent engages in a massive crime spree in the Metropolis (having been transformed by the effects of red kryptonite). Meanwhile, Lex Luthor must grapple with his own conscience while secluded on an island, and Jonathan Kent frantically searches for Clark, going to great lengths to obtain the power necessary to end the ill effects of the red kryptonite Other notable episodes from Season 3 include "Magnetic" in which a mysterious newcomer to Clark's school exhibits special magnetic powers (including the ability to attract Lana), and "Hereafter" in which Clark's discovers that his classmate Jordan can see into the future, prompting a prediction that Lana will die in the next few days

Lawsuit Loan Helps Families Get Back On Their Feet

Though many people have gone through the process of a lawsuit, most arent aware that applying for a lawsuit loan, or cash advance on the lawsuit, can help get them through the hard times!

Imagine this scenario; youve had an exhaustive day at work, and your family waits for you at home. Youre stopped at a red light and an eighteen-wheeler rear-ends your car. Youre injured, rushed to the hospital, and out of work for months. Your attorney files a lawsuit against the trucking company and promises you have a good caseyou just need to be patient.

But what happens if you cant? As the sole bread winner, your bills are piling up, the credit card is at its limit, the mortgage payment is due, and Christmas is right around the corner. You need money immediately. Thats where a lawsuit loan can help. A lawsuit loan is structured for people who cant afford to wait for the defendants insurance company to settle.

Insurance companies are in business to make money and bank on the fact that desperate plaintiffs will settle early. That is why a lawsuit loan is a critical solution to those in need. Better yet, the concept of the lawsuit loan is gaining ground and acceptance with attorneys.

If you have youve been in an accident, were a victim of a slip and fall, filed a workers compensation claim, or were injured by a faulty product, chances are you have an attorney working hard to settle your lawsuit. Dont waita lawsuit loan can be your salvation.

A Guide To Choosing A University Course

University courses and degree programs take around four years of study to complete. Nevertheless, some students may need more time to complete the university course. It is also possible to shorten the university courses by studying in the intersession of spring and summer.

An average student has to spend three hours of study for every hour spent in class. Fifteen hours per week is the average time for a university course. Depending upon the university courses subject, classes may be held during the evening, afternoon or in the day. To support the academic university courses, they may also have to attend the clubs, athletics, recreational activities and societies.

The overall requirement for the degree along with the degree elements will be explained to the students by the faculty advisor. The advisor should be kept informed if the student has any specific area of interest or careers in mind while selecting the university courses. The university courses can be chosen by the students based on their degree requirements, schedules and their interests.

During the transition to the university course, there will be a peer mentor or an upper class student studying in the same degree program to assist the first year students undergoing the university course.

Study skills are enhanced by free workshops conducted through out the year. By appointment and during the regular hours of office, the professors will also assist the students to overcome any problems faced by them during their university course period. For specific classes, tutorials and labs facilities will also be available for the students. In case of difficulties, the students studying a university course are encouraged to contact professors, faculty advisors or counselors to overcome their problems.

The cost of university courses depends upon the area of study and the lifestyle of the student. The technology fee, student fees and tuition fee are standard and must be paid by the students.

Each university course focuses on its studies. To cite an example, languages, politics, history, psychology are people oriented university courses in the Bachelor of Arts program. Where as the university courses under Bachelor of Science programs such as statistics, mathematics or biology are not people oriented.

Within a university course, in the degree program, a major should be chosen by the students. Within the overall degree, this is a specific study area. The majority of the courses will be related to the specific discipline when a major subject is chosen by the student. A student selecting history as his major in his university course will be studying more history related material than any other areas of study within that course.

Whilst selecting the university courses, try to find out the courses disliked during high school and concentrate more on the courses liked. To find more about the interesting university courses, make an appointment with the liaison officer for a discussion. Take a tour of the universities and colleges to find out more about the courses available.

What Does a Registry Cleaner Do ?

A registry cleaner scans the system for obsolete files and links and deletes them from the system registry to make the system run faster and more efficiently.

The registry was designed to speed up the operating system but this very intention and design by Microsoft could prove detrimental to your system is the registry is not serviced and maintained by regularly using a good registry cleaner software to clean the registry of useless entries that are slowing down the system and taking up disk space.

There are many registry cleaners such as the PC Mantra's registry cleaner, the PC registry cleaner and the Windows XP registry cleaner that can spruce up your system and make it much more enjoyable to use. Registry cleaner software, as any registry cleaner software, scans the system and traces obsolete or outdated data. Then after determining the good from the bad the registry cleaner deletes the redundant data enabling your PC to perform error free and more efficiently than before running the registry cleaner.

Ensure The Registry Cleaner Has A Good Backup Function

Before using a registry cleaner it is of paramount importance to ensure if the software has a registry backup function. This is important because in case the cleaner goes wrong the system will crash and will need to be restored with this backup to get the system back to its previous level of functioning. This can occur if the registry cleaner inadvertently deletes some file in the registry. You can download a free version of any registry cleaner or a trial version. However, a free or trial version will not have all the features enabled in the download so it is always good to have a licensed version of the registry cleaner software. In fact it is always good to have a licensed version of any software to keep your system running error free and efficiently.

A corrupted Registry Will Crash The System

If the registry of an operating system is damaged or corrupted the entire system will crash or become very unstable. This could render the system unusable. So, the registry is a vital part of the computer that has to be kept in very good working condition. If this part of the computer gets filled with trash, such as broken links caused by uninstalling software and not removing the entries from the registry, or outdated entries that do not need to be there the whole system will slow down drastically. Believe it or not a single day on the system can enter more than a thousand entries in the registry. Forty percent of which will be useless after the days work is done. These entries will have to be removed with the help of a good registry cleaner. Though a few thousand entries will have no significant effect on the system they will over a period of time.

Helping Children's Charities With Your Credit Card

People donate to charity in a number of ways. They give old clothes, bake and sell cakes, or contribute their time. Now there's an even easier way to support your favourite charity by using your credit card.

People have been able to use their credit cards to make direct payments to charity for quite some time. But now many charities are automating the practice of receiving donations by launching their own credit cards backed by major banks.

Charity Credit Cards How They Work

Charity credit cards donate to charities in two ways. People apply for credit cards as usual. Once the application is accepted, the issuing bank donates a lump sum to the charity. This can vary considerably, from as little as 5 to 40 or more.

The second part of the donation is a fixed percentage of spending on credit card purchases. Again, this rate can vary from around 0.25% to 1%. This means that charities get 25 pence for every 100 spent on the card.

Some card issuers offer an incentive for repeated spending on the card or for continuing to keep the card. This usually means another lump sum donation to the charity at the end of a set period, such as a year.

Children's Charity Credit Cards

There are many charities that issue credit cards, including many popular children's charities. The NSPCC (National Society For The Prevention of Cruelty To Children) card is backed by Halifax and offers a preferential rate on balance transfers for six months. Other credit cards for charities that benefit children include:

1. Barnardos issued by Cooperative Bank
2. Children in Crisis issued by Cooperative Bank
3. Childline - issued by MBNA
4. Children's Aid issued by Cooperative Bank
5. Children's Society issued by Cooperative Bank
6. Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital -
7. Mencap issued by Halifax
8. Save the Children issued by Cooperative Bank

All of these credit cards offer a one-off donation when the card is issued, a percentage of spending donated to charity and an additional donation for continued use of the credit card.

Looking For The Best Charity Credit Card Deal

In addition to donating to charity, most charity credit cards offer the same benefits as other credit cards. It is worth shopping around for the best deal. There are many websites that have credit card comparison charts to help people decide on the best mix of features.

Many charity credit cards have introductory offers. These include 0% balance transfer rates for fixed periods. Some card issuers charge a one-off fee for balance transfers to stop the practice of rate jumping.

Other introductory offers include long term low interest rates, low or 0% interest rates on purchases, reward points and more.

Shopping around for the best credit card deal will give consumers a credit card that suits their spending habits. At the same time, they will be able to automate their charitable contributions. This benefits both consumers and charities.

Home Theatre Speakers - What You Need To Know

Speaker types

There are four basic home theater speaker categories: towers, satellites, subwoofers, and center channels. A tower speaker is a tall, freestanding model capable of reproducing a full range of sound. Satellites, which can be used as both front or rear-channel (surround) speakers, are small, bass-limited models designed to be paired with a subwoofer - a dedicated speaker for reproducing both bass and the low-frequency-effects channel in Dolby Digital and DTS soundtracks. And a center channel speaker is a horizontally oriented satellite that's designed to reproduce dialog.

Freestanding vs. on-wall

In the past, home theater speakers were usually installed alongside big-screen TVs - either freestanding or placed on top of speaker stands. But many new models are on-wall designs that come with wall-mounting hardware. One advantage to these kinds of speakers is that they get positioned on walls where they don't take up any room space. A second advantage is that their slim, wall hugging design nicely complements flat-panel plasma and LCD TVs.

Do you really need a center channel?

With some systems - especially those built around a large, slim rear-projection TV - finding a place to put the center channel speaker can be a problem. Although you can get by without using one, it's not recommended - center channel speakers are specifically designed to reproduce voices. You'll find that movie dialog will sound much clearer when you use them. So instead of bypassing the center speaker or using the TV's built-in speakers as a center channel substitute (a terrible option, since the tonal balance of your TV's speakers isn't likely to match that of your other speakers), look for an alternative mounting method. Speaker wall mounts make a fine option, especially with flat-panel TVs. Most TV stands also include storage shelves that can hold a small center channel speaker.

Speaker connections. A variety of connectors can be found on the back of speakers.

A spring-clip connector is a plastic, spring-loaded clamp that's usually found on the back of inexpensive speakers. The connection provided by spring clips isn't as secure as other types, and they can only accept bare speaker wire.

Binding posts are a step-up connection option found on high-quality speakers. There are two types of binding posts: regular and five-way. Regular types accept both banana plug and spade-lug connectors on speaker cables. The connection they provide is very secure, and in some cases the connector is also gold-plated to prevent oxidation - a condition that can potentially degrade performance. And five-way binding posts, which accept bare wire and pin-type connectors in addition to banana plugs and spade lugs, offer even more hookup flexibility than regular types.

In-wall and in-ceiling speaker + and

For those who prefer to keep their audio/video equipment out of sight, in-wall and in-ceiling speakers make a great alternative to regular models. Although the sound quality of in-wall and in-ceiling models is generally a notch below that of regular speakers, they can be mounted inside of cutout cavities in the walls or ceiling of your room where they won't take up any space. Both types are also designed to contain vibrations within the cabinet, so you won't have to worry about rattling the walls during action movies. Installation of in-wall and in-ceiling speakers involves running wires through the walls and/or ceiling of your home. If you're an experienced DIY type, you might be up to that task, but for most people it's best left to a custom installer.

Surround speaker considerations: direct-radiating, dipolar, and bipolar There are several options to consider when choosing surround sound speakers for your system.

Direct-radiating models fire sound directly out from the speaker's front baffle toward the listener's ears. These are a good all-purpose surround sound speaker choice since their clear, focused dispersion pattern can accurately convey the directional sound effect pans in DVD soundtracks.

Dipolar models radiate sound from both the speaker's back and front, with the opposing driver sets wired out-of-phase with each other. This design offers a more diffuse, spacious sound than a direct-radiating model while retaining some of the latter's focused dispersion characteristics. (Dipolar models are favored for THX-certified designs specifically because of their diffuse sound, which more accurately resembles what you'd hear in a real movie theater.)

Bipolar models also radiate sound from the front and back, except that in this case both sets of drivers are wired in-phase with one another. This design allows a bipolar speaker to provide the best of both worlds: a direct-radiator's clarity and focus, and a dipole's spaciousness.

What is frequency response, and what should I look for?

The range of audio frequencies that a speaker can reproduce is known as its frequency response. Human hearing extends from 20 Hz to 20 kHz (20,000 Hz) - a span that few models are able to cover fully. The bass frequencies at the bottom of the range (approximately 20-120 Hz) are the most difficult for a speaker to cover. Satellites don't attempt it at all, but instead pass the task off to a subwoofer - a dedicated bass speaker with drivers large enough to move the massive quantity of air needed to reproduce low frequencies. Since tower speakers usually contain one or more woofers, they generally deliver decent bass. But if you're shopping for tower speakers - especially if you plan to use one in a system where there's no subwoofer - make a point of checking the low end of its frequency response specification. And remember that not all measurements are the same. For example, the bass response of a speaker spec'd at 6 dB at 40 Hz probably won't sound as full as one that measures 3 dB at 40 Hz.

Speaker impedance and selection

Most new speakers are designed to be compatible with a wide range of receivers and audio amplifiers, so specifications like impedance-the measure of a speaker's resistance to electrical power flowing through it as specified in Ohms-generally aren't things you need to worry too much about. But what you should know is that an amplifier has to work harder to drive a speaker with a lower impedance rating than one with a higher rating. Say that your receiver is rated to deliver 100 watts into an 8-ohm load. If your speakers have an 8-Ohm impedance spec, then you aren't likely to encounter any problems. But if your speakers' specified impedance is 4 ohms or less, the chances for that same receiver to overheat and shut down will be increased.

Placement: the final frontier

Many people tend to be casual about where they put their speakers; more often than not, they get shoved into any old space where it's convenient. But speaker placement becomes crucial when setting up a home theater system. You'll want the positioning of surround sound effects in your room to correspond to what's happening on screen, and that will only happen if speakers are set up properly.

Front channel towers or satellite models on stands should ideally be placed equidistant from the TV's sides and about three feet out from the front wall. This setup will heighten imaging and reduce any sound-muddying room reinforcement effects. And your subwoofer should be pushed into a corner of the room to permit the sound-reinforcing effect of adjacent walls to strengthen the bass. While placement guidelines for surround speakers are less strict than those for front speakers, installing them in a high position at the sides and slightly behind the listening area will usually enhance surround sound envelopment.

Managing Your Debts: Tips For The Beginner

Getting out of debt seems like the impossible dream to some. But in actuality, managing your debts is really not that difficult. It can take a little time, and quite a bit of self-control, but if you learn to organize, budget, and manage your debts reasonably, you will be well on your way to financial freedom.

It is essential to contact your creditors as soon as possible in your effort to erase your debts. Usually, if you make most creditors aware that you are trying to improve your financial situation, they will decrease credit card interest rates for you. Also, if you are unable to make your monthly obligations, let the creditors know; usually they can design a special arrangement for you.

Debt consolidation is another top option you should consider when choosing to manage and eliminate your debts. Do you own a home? If the answer is yes, think about applying for a home equity loan or putting a second mortgage on your house. This may seem extreme, but consider this. If you have numerous high interest credit cards, bills, or loans, in reality, you are paying more for these materials than they were worth when you bought them.

There can be a downside to these kinds of high equity loans, however. Most of these loans require that you use your real estate as collateral. So how does this affect you? If you fail to make a payment you are in danger of losing your home.

Another excellent way to manage your debts is to make larger payments on your monthly credit card bills. If you pay a little bit more than the least amount required, a more significant monetary figure is added towards your overall account remainder. Eventually, this will cost you a smaller sum of money in interest.

If you add just a few extra dollars to your payment each month, it will steadily reduce the number of payments of all of the loans and credit cards you have accrued. When you lower the amount of payments that are made, this also decreases the balance a person will eventually end up paying in charges, interests, and fees.

So, you think you might need counseling? Credit counseling actually may be your answer. This type of service will assist you in determining a reliable form of action for help you manage and demolish your debts. These organizations provide a wide variety of programs such as, advice on debt management, and have workshops that are devoted to things like, managing money and budgeting. Lost on which way to go with your debt problems? Try credit counseling.

Budgeting is an essential step when trying to manage and eventually clear your debts. Budgeting also assists you in seizing power over your money, and realizing your current financial position. You first need to make a listing of all of your set monthly costs such as, utilities, insurance co-payments and premiums, mortgage, and rent payments.

Then compose another list of things that are for other expenses such as recreational activities. You must learn how to prioritize costs. You then need to decide how much extra cash you want to set aside monthly to be contributed to your debt relief fund. The more money you give back, the quicker your debts will be settled.

6 Techniques To Beat Credit Card Debt

Did you know that credit card companies don't want you to pay off your credit card debt? Why would they? The more credit card debt you have, the more interest you pay to them. And interest is their lifeblood.

Credit card companies have helped to foster our acceptance of debt as part of our lifestyle. We keep spending more than we make by about 10% each month and keep adding to our debt. As those credit card balances keep growing month after month, so too do those minimum monthly payments. There will come a time when we will not be able to afford even those minimum payments. Many people have already reached and surpassed that point.

We have fallen into the credit card trap where we get sucked into the convenience of it all, easily put off payments, and overspend. Have you compared your monthly income to your monthly credit card limit? Pretty remarkable how much larger your card limit is. We use credit cards for just about everything and we have maxed out. The convenience has lulled us into the credit card trap.

So how do you break the cycle? It's all about changing your attitude towards credit card debt. Here are 6 techniques you can use to turn the table in your favor and allow you to break free of credit card debt.

1. Treat your credit card spending as a loan. Most people dont see their credit card debt as a loan. It really is just that. You borrow money and it has to be repaid. Its all about an attitude change.

2. Always watch your balance. Instead of looking at your credit card limit, look at your monthly earnings. Always make sure your credit card balance doesnt grow beyond what you can afford for the month.

3. Keep all your purchase receipts. Costly errors can be fixed quickly if you have the receipts. Also, they help you visualize how much you are spending. Put the receipts some place where you'll see them everyday. As the pile grows, you can see your debt grow.

4. Pay off your whole balance on time each month. This is the best way to break free of credit card debt. You dont pay interest and there are no late penalties. Over time, the savings can be huge.

If you're struggling to pay off your credit cards, there are many different options that can help for example, you can consolidate credit card debt or get credit counseling. They can make it easier to get a grip on your monthly payments.

5. Treat your credit cards as emergency cards. Don't take them shopping. Use cash or debit cards. If you use cash or a debit card, you can drain your bank account until it's empty but at least you can't spend any more. Amazing how in our society, we aren't comfortable about having our bank account balance go to zero but we'll let our credit card debt grow which, in effect, is taking our bank account below zero.

6. Keep your lowest interest rate credit card and cut up the rest. If you dont have them, they cant help you add to your debt.

The credit card companies have you right where they want you carrying high balances and paying lots of interest. However, by changing your attitude towards credit card debt and using these 6 techniques you can break free.

The Most Appropriate Educational Toys For Your Children

Children learn about the world through toys. Different toys fulfill different developmental and educational purposes, and understanding this variety and the needs of your child will help you in selecting the most appropriate toys for your child.

Here are some significant needs of children that can be fulfilled by the right kind of toys:

Creative development: Lewis Carrolls Alice captured the essence of childhood with her eager phrase: Lets pretend... Watch how many things your child can do with an empty cardboard box. Other examples: Clay, paint, dolls, crayons, play dough.

Intellectual development: Just pulling a simple wagon, your child is learning about the relationship between force and velocity. Other examples are books, miniature ovens, bicycles and science kits.

Physical development: Through toys and games, children develop their strength, motor skills, hand-eye coordination and muscle control. Toys for this are balls, bikes, blocks, shovels, and all outdoor games.

Sensory development: Children learn about textures, smells, colors and sounds through toys. The toys for this are musical instruments, clay, blocks, puzzles.

Social development: Through toys, children learn about each other and about friendship. They learn how to get along with others, and the mechanics of personal relationships. What happens when your child builds a sandcastle together with a friend? What happens when your child refuses to share a toy? Board games, dolls and puzzles are some toys that can help your childs social development.

Personality development: Games and toys build confidence and self-esteem in children, and help them learn about themselves through their likes and dislikes. Solving a puzzle, building a house with blocks, riding a bike -- all these exercises help your child feel a sense of accomplishment and self-worth.

The best toys for your child are the ones that provide an enriching learning experience in a fun way and are helpful in the development of basic skills of your child. It is important that you think deeply before buying a toy for your child and evaluate what learning experience your child will have while playing with that toy.

Using Toys

With time, your child will learn how to take responsibility for her choices, actions, and belongings. The following are some guidelines with which you can help your child become responsible without compromising on her safety:

Talk to your child about proper care and storage of toys. Fix a place of storage and do not allow toys to be left on the floor or outside the house.

If there is more than one child, separate their toys to make sure that the younger ones may not play with toys appropriate for older children. Explain this, and related safety hazards, to the older children.

Participate in your childs play and set good examples of safe play. After playtime, show them how to put the toys away safely, and slowly allow your child to take responsibility for the toys.

Teach your child to recognize unsafe toys and safety hazards. Check their toys (especially electric ones) regularly for damage, and urge them to let you know if a toy breaks or seems unsafe.

Appropriate and Allowable Toys for Children

In this chapter, we will discuss the skills and needs of children at different ages, and accordingly choose safe and appropriate toys for each age group.

3 to 4 years

During this time, children use their imagination to imitate adult activity, and participate actively in physical games. Their knowledge of safety hazards and self-defense also increases.

Appropriate toys: Puppets, farm and community play sets like tea sets, climbing structures, miniature ovens, toy telephones, simple board games, tricycles, boxes, dolls and stuffed animals, water play toys, puzzles, balls, simple musical instruments etc.

4 to 6 years

At this age, children learn about social skills and cooperation by participating in preschool group games. Their physical coordination develops, and the foundation of printing and writing is also laid at this time.

Appropriate toys: Transportation vehicles of all types like
bicycles with helmets and training wheels toys, drop boxes, sleds, creative materials, painting material, books and records, stencils, puzzles, balls, action figures, dress-up clothes, housekeeping props,
dollhouses, character toys, simple construction toys etc.

6 to 9 years

Children learn about getting along with others, and about the adult world of sports, games, and careers. At this stage, children develop their intellectual and social interests and make strong friendships, likes and dislikes.

Appropriate toys: Board games, marbles, jacks, puppets, doll equipment and accessories, craft kits, construction toys, complex puzzles, jump ropes, art material of all kinds, roller and ice skates etc.

Copier Machine Buyer's Guide

1. What is my budget?

Copier speed is measured in copies per minute (CPM, also known as pages per minute or PPM). Copiers can produce from four to over 100 copies per minute. The slowest machines begin at around 700 and the fastest, digitally connected, multifunctional machines can cost over 100,000. Copiers that cost more than a couple thousand pounds are most often rented or leased, but they can also be bought outright. Leases for photocopiers typically extend for three to five years.

2. Hidden Costs?

The capital cost of printers may be relatively inexpensive but the cost of Consumables, Maintenance plays an important part in budgetary decisions. Research shows that 40% to 45% of total cost of ownership goes toward consumables and servicing and 55% to 60% is down to manageability and reliability.

3. What's your copy and print volume?

Its always worth assessing your current usage by conducting a quick print audit of average pages printed per month, A4 or A3 requirements, Black & white usage and

Colour usage. Take a long-term view and consider the potential growth of your company.

4. Colour and Mono?

Colour is undoubtedly where the future lies. Although the manufactures are obviously keen to push colour copiers, as it increases their margins on consumables, remember the best business MFPs do offer mono and colour simultaneously. Its also possible to disable the colour on the MFPs if you do not need colour now but want it in the future.

How To Have A Low Cost Web Site With High Cost Features

There a lot of solutions out there that enables anyone to create a web site.

Though these solutions usually give a variety of templates that the user can choose from and customize with his own information.

The problem arises when the site owner wants more than just an informative site.

He wants to communicate with his web site surfers, receive feedback from them in a variety of issues i.e. Contact us form, Polls, Feedback and many more Web Forms.

To create and add these Web Forms usually he needs a programmers help (paid of course) that will build him the code of those Web Forms and to upgrade his hosting from a simple HTML hosting to Code / Database hosting.

These operations increase the cost of the web site ten folds and even more.

There are some solutions out there that enable a non programmer web site owner to create and manage forms, in this article I would like to suggest one of them: http://www.formlogix.com is web platform that enables you to do that and more.

Creating a form is the first step using the system.

The form creator tool is a user friendly web form designer, which does not require graphic or technical skills whatsoever.

Using the form creator tool, one can create, change and delete forms.

Also you can publish the form through your web site (using the formlogix platform with no need for database and expensive hosting)

Once data is gathered through the form, one can view it using a web based interface.

The information viewed can be sorted and sliced for maximum comfort.

You will also be able to create, edit, and delete data.

Whenever there is a new data entry, you will be advised via e-mail, and will thus be kept up-to-date.

Highly sophisticated query builder will assist you in filtering your data, and creating charts based on it.

You can use the platform to create:

Contact us forms, registration forms, surveys, polls, business forms, order forms, questionnaires, employee satisfaction forms - these are only a few of an endless range of forms, that can be produced with the Formlogix form creator tool.

Tips for Creating Good Website Designs

A lot can be said about Internet advertising and online commerce but there is no doubt that they are quite profitable business activities. Advertising on television or in print is less effective than promoting a company on the Internet. But to make a good online commercial targeted to millions of potential clients you need very good website designs. There is nothing more important than good website design when marketing a product online is concerned. You no longer need flashing three sentence ads in giant text on a white screen. Simply said, good website designs are high tech and eye pleasing. They actually resemble a television commercial.

Of course, only the good ones do. There are many websites which are not high tech and could not certainly be taken for good website designs. Personal pages could be loud and very colourful but it comes as a big surprise that many companies still rely on old school early 90s type of web design. There are two possible reasons why they dont have good websites designs. The first one is that they dont fully realize the importance of the good design in marketing and advertising on the Internet. The second reason might be for they dont consider Cyberspace as a major source of income. Though, it is certain that online business will keep on blooming in the years to come.

I suppose the major factor when designing a website is usability. A site with good usability means that not only is the site easy to use but it is also comprehensible for the potential customers. This is the bases for any good website designs.

Other important factors are good content and originality. A reader should have lots of information on display; they should be able to review discussions of a product and service. The content should be informative and interesting but professional, as well. Even though looks matter, good website designs are more about content that graphic production.

However the importance of graphics should not be underestimated. This includes colour, style of text, image and design graphics. You can give a more professional look to a website with a single line or a bullet well placed. Good website designs contain all these things. It is vital not to turn off customers by putting any pictures (whether of people or nature) if inappropriate to the setting. It is also important that graphics have good quality but low file size because if they dont meet these requirements then the customers might grow impatient while waiting for the file to load.

Other things which should be taken into considerations are compatibility and navigation. Apart from Internet Explorer there are people using Netscape or Firefox as their usual web browser. Thus it is important that the site is compatible with different web browsers or computers. Of course, this will make the designing of the web site harder but it would be worth it.

It might sound easy to have a good website but remember that good website designs are hard work and a billion dollar industry.

Bonsai Gardens to Visit

Visiting a Japanese garden is a serene experience. It beckons its visitors to leave the world behind and enjoy the beauty and splendor of nature. Bonsai are included in most Japanese gardens and enhance their uniqueness and beauty. In a Japanese garden you are encouraged to observe, listen and reflect. Visiting just one of these gardens is a treat for all of the senses.

The United States National Bonsai and Penjing Museum in Washington DC has one of the largest collections of bonsai and penjing trees in North America. The garden began when Japan donated 53 bonsai trees to the people of the United States to commemorate the U.S. Bicentennial in 1976. It now contains over 150 plants donated by American and Japanese bonsai masters and penjing from China. The exhibit also includes viewing stones and ikebana which is Japanese flower arranging. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. every day of the year except Christmas.

The Pacific Rim Bonsai Collection in Federal Way Washington was created in 1989 by the Weyerhaeuser Company to honor their trade relations with Pacific Rim nations and as a tribute to the Washington state centennial. It contains over 50 bonsai trees from around the world and is free of charge. It is opened year round March - September 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed Thursdays and October - February 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed Thursdays and Fridays. The bonsai represents works by renowned artists and several of their trees have won awards.

Elandan Gardens located in Bremerton Washington is a family-owned garden that is opened to the public. The collection includes trees more than 1000 years old. The owner, Dan Robinson, has spent more than 40 years dedicated to the art of bonsai. Built in 1993, it is located on six acres of land off the shores of Puget Sound. It is a dynamic garden, changing from season to season as Dan continues to add more bonsai to his collection. The garden is open Tuesdays through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. They are closed on Mondays and the month of January.

Harvard University Arboretum or the Arnold Arboretum is home to the Larz Anderson Bonsai Collection. Most of the trees in the Bonsai collection were imported by Larz Anderson in 1913 when he returned after serving as ambassador to Japan. The trees were donated to the Arboretum in 1937 and 1949 with the deaths of Larz and eventually his wife, Isabel. They also donated funds to build a shade house for their display. Today, due to theft and inexperience with the bonsai when they were first donated, there are only 15 of the original 39 trees left, but the collection is still enjoyable to look at. The bonsai can be viewed mid April through early November from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The international Bonsai Arboretum is owned by William N. Valavanis and is dedicated to the art of bonsai. It is mainly an educational facility to teach bonsai, but it also sells bonsai equipment. The bonsai garden can be viewed by appointment only. It is an unusual garden full of sculptured trees and rare plant material. It is located in West Henrietta, New York, a suburb of Rochester.

One of the most spectacular conservatories in the United States is the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It features 13 indoor garden rooms and 6 outdoor garden areas. One of the outdoor gardens is the Japanese Courtyard Garden that includes Japanese lanterns, a quaint stream and a beautiful bonsai collection. The conservatory is open year round, seven days a week from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and until 9 p.m. on Fridays.

iPod Vs. Zune: Music and Video Download Sites

There are many folks that hate both Apple and Microsoft portable media products. Apple makes iPod and Microsoft makes Zune. Fortunately for the consumer, there are other good portable media players out there now but do not have the same visibility as Apple and Microsoft products. Discussion about these other portable media players like SanDisks Sansa series and Creatives Zen series devices are beyond the scope of this article. This article is about basic iPod and Zune similarities and differences. In addition, sources for purchasing music online for iPod and Zune will be briefly discussed.

The iPod is a portable media players designed and marketed by Apple and released to the public in 2001. Currently, as a digital audio player, the iPod is the best-selling music player in history. Zune is Microsoft's digital audio player, released in 2006, directly competing with Apples iPod. Each of these portable media players deliver what it was intended to do which is to play music or audio, display images, and play video. Each has their pros and cons.

There are many Zune and IPod similarities and I will list major ones. They each have the same starting price of around $249, disk storage, picture capacity, screen resolution, and aspect ratio. They play audio, pictures, and video. They have USB connection (to another device, typically a computer), battery, and similar battery life.

Both devices support MP3, MP4, M4A, M4B (for audio), and MOV (for video) file formats. The Zune favors Windows Media Audio (WMA) while iPod has its protected AAC format. When it comes to exchanging files, you will need software tools to convert your iTunes files to MP3 or convert Zune WMA files to MP3. Both systems support JPGs (for still images) and MPGs (for video).

There are advantages that Zune has over iPod. Approximately 60 hours more video can be stored in the 30GB version. Zune has a larger screen size and is capable of portrait mode display. Zune has wallpaper, FM radio, wireless connectivity, and faster battery charge. Zune Plays WMA audio formats and WMV video formats. It has one more standard case color: brown!

There are advantages that iPod has over Zune. iPod plays games, is compatible with the Audible, Apple Lossless, AIFF, and WAV audio formats. It plays H.264, M4V, MP4, MOV, MPEG-4 video formats. It is slightly smaller and lighter than Zune. The iPod software works on PC and Mac. Zune only works with PCs.

The primary websites for music downloads are iTunes Store for iPod and Zune Marketplace for Zune. Both sites offer music downloads of 0.99 cents per song. With Zune Marketplace, you can buy a monthly subscription for $14.99 a month for unlimited downloads as long as you have a subscription.

But there are other online music stores out there so you are not limited to Apple and Microsoft. Do an online search for online music stores and determine what works for you.

The stores that I recommend are offered here and have one time fees:

For Zune music and video downloads, click on http://argee.zreactor.hop.clickbank.net

Have fun with what ever portable media player you choose!

How To Choose A Credible Distance Learning Degree

More and more universities and colleges are offering distance learning degree education such as Bachelor degrees, Masters and even Doctorate PhD degrees to students who prefer to study from the comfort of their own homes rather than attending campus classes.

Even as the credibility of some distance learning degrees are being questioned on their credibility, famous universities like Harvard University and Phoenix University are already hopping on the distance learning degree track.

Distance learning education offers students the opportunity to study and earn a degree level education at where the students are located. This will also mean that students living in another part of the world can also study and take examinations online without ever stepping foot into any college or university campuses.

All the distance learning student needs to do is to watch online lectures, access course material and take examinations through a learning management system and communicate with lecturers over the internet or on the telephone.

This method of obtaining a credible accredited university degree will auger well for the distance learning universities, colleges as well as the students since more students from around the globe can enroll in the courses offered by these institutions. This will also result in keeping the costs of running the degree courses much lower and making the university fees more affordable to potential students.

As with anything, there will always be the good the bad and the ugly. There will be so called universities offering fake degrees without even going through a course of studies. So it is vital to ensure that the distance learning college or university you are enrolling in is appropriately accredited. This can be done by checking on the accreditation body that provides the accreditation and re-confirm it with education agencies.

By and large, most accredited distance learning colleges offer real and recognized degree programs. Most online education classes use the same course content, materials, instructors and even same examination questions as those students who attend the on campus programs. In other words, the online degrees are of the same quality as those of the on campus degrees.

Numerous researches and studies conducted on accredited universities and colleges has shown that the distance learning degree programs are effective and have consistent student's achievement.

The California State University at Northridge conducted study on students in online education programs and reported its findings as follows :-

a) Students online learning programs tested 20% better than their counterparts in a traditional classroom study environment.

b) Distance learning students tend to be more self-motivated, disciplined, and are higher achievers.

c) Distance learning students spend 50% more time collaborating with other online students than students in the on-campus environment.

d) There is no difference in distance learning education results versus in-class accomplishment. The research found that student's attitude and motivation being the determining factor of their results and the methods of delivery in the class do not matter at all.

So if you are uneasy about the credibility of distance learning colleges or universities degree program, these findings should put you more at ease.
